Welcome to Scale Motor Hobbies!
Hi there! I’m Luke, the creator of Scale Motor Hobbies. As a passionate model builder and 3D printing enthusiast, I’ve spent years crafting detailed models and dioramas. Like many hobbyists, I often struggled to find the right detail kits and accessories—stock shortages, out-of-production items, and low-quality products were all too common.
To solve this, I started designing and printing my own custom parts for 1/24 scale cars, dioramas, and more. These files initially sat idle on my hard drive, but I realized they could benefit others. That’s when I began sharing my designs on platforms like Cults3D and Etsy, helping fellow modelers enhance their builds.
One thing always bothered me, though—license plates. The decals included in kits or paper-printed plates never quite captured the realism I wanted for my models. Then it hit me: why not use a 3D printer to create custom license plates?
While selling custom plates on Etsy seemed like a great idea, manually designing each order in Fusion 360 became time-consuming and impractical—especially since I work full-time. I needed a solution that was faster, automated, and easy for hobbyists like you to use.
And that’s how this website was born.
The License Plate Generator lets you create custom plates for your models in minutes. Whether it’s UK, US, or Japanese plates (more regions coming soon!), you can easily design plates for 1/24 cars and 1/12 motorcycles. These files are fully scalable in your slicer, so you can adjust them for larger projects like wall decorations in your garage, man cave, or hobby room.
Here’s how it works:
- Choose your plate style and enter your custom text.
- Adjust the placement using our easy preview tools.
- Complete your order, and the STL file will be automatically emailed to you, ready to download and print.
It’s fast, hassle-free, and designed to make your modeling experience even better!
If you use these plates in your builds, I’d love to see them! Tag me on social media—links are at the top of this page.
Thank you for visiting Scale Motor Hobbies, and happy modeling!
